Physical rehabilitation of cats: 1. Common conditions benefiting from physiotherapy

Goldberg, M.E. (2025) ‘Physical rehabilitation of cats: 1. Common conditions benefiting from physiotherapy’, Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, 27(7), p. 1098612X251334558. doi: 10.1177/1098612X251334558.

This article is the first in a two-part series on the physical rehabilitation of cats. It discusses the most common painful conditions in cats that can benefit from physiotherapy, such as osteoarthritis (OA), fractures, neurological conditions, and obesity. The paper emphasizes that while physiotherapy has traditionally been more common in dogs, cats can benefit just as much. The authors highlight the clinical challenges of working with cats, who may not be accustomed to handling, and the importance of a multidisciplinary team approach. The article also provides a brief overview of the pathological and clinical signs of feline OA.
