The Benefits of Working Horses Long and Low

Long and Low is an exercise I prescribe regularly for my equine clients. Traditional riding incorporates a lot of riding the horse on the contact in a collected way. Horses are not designed to carry a rider, so it is our job to strengthen the whole horse to be able to carry a rider effectively. Walking your horse long and low, over obstacles, up and downhill, and through weaves will allow your horse the equivalent of a full-body yoga session.


Tails Therapy does NOT endorse the incorrect or overuse of training aids to hold the horse's head down. All this does is hold the horse in an uncomfortable position for a long period and encourage the neck to brace, the back to hollow, and the hind legs to disengage.
